Visit to Red Ribbon Express



Red Ribbon Express
Forty two students, accompanied by Mrs. Indira Goyal, lecturer in English and Mrs. Sushila Chaudhary from Commerce department of our college visited Kalka railway station yesterday to have a glimpse of Red Ribbon Express, a train creating awareness among the public, especially the youth, about HIV and AIDS. The train consisting of eight coaches was flagged off from Safdarjang Railway Station in Delhi on 1st Dec., 2009 by the UPA chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and is slated to halt at 152 railway stations in 141 districts of the country. Deputy Commissioner of Panchkula, Mrs. Ashima Brar, I. A. S. also visited the Red Ribbon Express on its arrival at  Kalka railway station in the morning of 17th Oct. It will stay here for two days till 19th  of Oct. On display in different coaches were bio-medical aspects of HIV & AIDS with the help of touch screens and 3D models. Doctors and volunteers provided counseling to people in order to strengthen their knowledge about the disease. One purpose of this exhibition is to remove stigma and discrimination prevalent in the minds of people about AIDS. The project is being implemented National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO). Haryana AIDS State Control Society organized a cultural programme on this occasion.
